How Much Can the 2027 Ford Transit Tow?

Towing capability depends on which engine, wheelbase, axle ratio and drivetrain the van is built with. Properly equipped, the highest conventional rating is 6,900 pounds§ on an EcoBoost Cargo Van. Trailers over 5,000 pounds require the Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow Package.

Roof Heights, Body Lengths and Cargo Space

The Cargo Van is built in three roof heights — Low, Medium and High — and three body lengths — Regular, Long and Extended — on a 130-inch or 148-inch wheelbase. Passenger Vans use the 148-inch wheelbase in Long and Extended lengths only. For contractors working tight job sites or the agricultural properties around East Troy, the decision usually comes down to cargo length against turning radius: the 130-inch wheelbase turns in 43.5 feet curb-to-curb, the 148-inch in 48.5 feet.

Standard Driver-Assist Technology

Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard on every 2027 Transit series. It includes Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, Post-Collision Braking, the Lane-Keeping System, Intersection Assist, Camera-Only Evasive Steering Assist, Auto High-Beam Headlamps and front and rear parking sensors on Cargo and Passenger Van bodies. Side Wind Stabilization and AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control are standard as well, which matters most on High Roof bodies, and the Safety Canopy curtain airbag system is standard across the range. Passenger Van XLT goes further, adding Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist 2.0 with adaptive cruise control, BLIS with Cross-Traffic Alert and a 360-degree camera as standard equipment.

¶ Driver-assist and safety systems are supplemental aids and are not a substitute for safe, attentive driving. Their effectiveness depends on weather, road, and traffic conditions and other factors. Always obey traffic laws and stay attentive to the road. See your owner's manual for system details and limitations.

Factory Custom Ordering for Fleet and Trade Buyers

Our commercial sales department helps businesses, trade contractors and fleet managers specify the exact combination of wheelbase, roof height, engine and axle ratio a job calls for. A 250-amp alternator is standard on both gas engines, and factory orders can add dual AGM batteries or a dual-alternator setup on the EcoBoost V6, along with the 3.73 or 4.10 axle ratio the trailer math requires. Ordering from the factory means the van arrives ready for equipment installation instead of needing add-ons afterward. In-stock Transit configurations are available for immediate delivery, and our commercial and work truck inventory lists builds by body type and GVWR.
